WIT Sports Campus
Covering almost 160 acres of land, the new WIT Sports Campus is located off the city outer ring road, just off the new city by-pass. The Campus boasts three sand based flood lit pitches, a meeting room and office space on the ground floor with a viewing balcony and open area on the first floor. The state of the art sports campus includes the following facilities:
Phase 2 of the WIT Sports Campus development is underway and will see a major new sports arena opening over the coming months. Located at the Sports Campus is the recently established National Hurling and Camogie Development Centre, with which the department has close links. |
Tourism & Leisure Building
Opened in 2009, the Tourism and Leisure building is the most recent building on the Main Campus. The majority of classes in the department are timetabled into this building.
The department specialist space, including the human performance laboratories, dance studio and department notice boards, are located towards the back of the building on the first floor. |
Human Performance Laboratories
There are two human performance laboratories in the Tourism and Leisure Building used for undergraduate teaching, postgraduate research and to provide sports science support to individual athletes and elite squads in the region. One of these is climatically controlled. These house the following equipment
- Two Moxus metabolic systems
- Douglas bag gas analysis systems with stand alone gas analysers
- DEXA analyzer for body composition analysis and bone mineral density determination
- 12-lead ECG stress test system
- Plethysmography system for determination of blood flow and vascular function
- High speed treadmill with safety harness
- Wattbike
Dance Studio, Weights Rooms, Athletics Track and Swimming PoolThe department has its own dance studio and free weights room. These are used by a number of programmes in the department for teaching and examination purposes. Located near to the Main WIT Campus is the Waterford Regional Sports Centre with its synthetic track and the Waterford Crystal Sports Complex with its 25 meter swimming pool.
