Tip 1 - Make a healthy shopping listThe first thing you should do when you land down on a Sunday to your college house is make a shopping list. Boring I know! But shopping lists help you keep on track with what you buy which will make it easier to eat healthy. Firstly set a budget of how much you can spend on food for the week. The next step is a little bit more difficult. WHAT TO BUY??? Let me break it down to simple terms. The body needs good nutritious foods such as Protein, GOOD Fats, Carbohydrates, Fruit and Vegetables. The left picture is what a healthy shopping list looks like, you include these foods in your diet you’re guaranteed to notice changes to your body! Now some of ye may look at this and be like those foods are boring and bland, and they are, unless you get creative! Why not try using spices to help bring flavour to your dishes. I personally love add garlic herb spices or Cajun spice to chicken! |
Tip 2 - Prepare your meals
Tip 3 - Ditch the DIET! Just eat healthy
It’s your life you can do what you want. It is not the end of the world if you eat a chocolate bar. Limiting yourselves from certain foods only creates cravings. Eating too much of them causes problems! My advice is balance! Treat yourself every now and again, after all college can be stressful especially around exam times. We DESERVE treats every now and again I would usually have a treat as a snack during the day after eating one of my main meals so I’m not tempted to keep eat more! This balance of healthy eating is way more effective and beneficial than these fad diets. Diets have an EXPIRARY date, remember that! |
Tip 4 - Don't skip breakfast
Tip 5 - Fight hangover cravings by making ‘fake-aways’
Tip 6 - Stay hydrated
I bet everyone knows this already, but how many of you can say you drink at least 2 litres a day? (Water, not alcohol!) There is countless benefits of drinking water, some including: Promoting weight loss, fights infections, improves concentration, boosts your energy etc. All of which can help us cope as students! Carry a litre water bottle in your bag and aim to drink 1 litre in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. You are guaranteed to feel a difference. |
Tip 7 - Be active
Tip 8 - Join a society/gym/sports club
The great thing about being in college is the opportunity we have to try new things! How about trying something new that you never tried before that has some level of activity in it. There are societies usually to suit every personality and thankfully not all are competitive, almost all of them contain a social element which can be great crack! You are having fun while being active! If you’re a type of person that wants to perhaps pump the guns, lose a few pounds or just maintain your body image there is most likely a gym on campus (or nearby), and most likely at a discounted rate! If you are not motivated enough to do things in a gym on your own perhaps an exercise class may be the thing for you. Even if it is just once a week it can make a difference, not just physically but mentally. It can help take away from the STRESS of exams! |
